Duty of Care on the Range

Every time the red flag flies at the Upper Yarra Rifle Range, a Range Officer (RO) steps up to take charge.
Their #1 responsibility? Making sure every shooter, visitor, and volunteer goes home safe.
ROs oversee the firing line, the targets, and the timing — but more than that, they carry a legal and moral duty of care. From new juniors at their first Come & Try,
to experienced competitors pushing for championship points, the RO ensures a safe and fair environment for everyone.
But safety isn’t just the job of the RO.  At Lilydale Rifle Club, it’s a shared culture:
✅ Every shooter follows the commands.
✅ Every visitor respects the rules.
✅ Anyone can call “STOP STOP STOP” if something isn’t safe.
Our ROs set the standard, but it’s the whole club community that makes LRC a safe, welcoming, and professional place to shoot.
💬 “Safety isn’t just rules—it’s a culture we build together.”
